The ongoing Boeing 737 MAX saga continues to unfold, as division grows among international groups of regulators. India has recently joined Europe in choosing to certify the 737 MAX on their own, following the FAA’s green light, before the plane will be allowed in their airspace. The grounding is now likely to drag on at least until the end of 2019 – and MRP believes even longer. This long layoff has resulted in the loss of 7 million seats worth of flight cancellations, slowed output and deliveries of MAX jets, and more costs to bring them back online. There is no reliable measurement for what the total cost to Boeing and airlines will be when all is said and done, but it will certainly leave a large mark on balance sheets across the industry.
